Green Investing in Solar ETFs

For most people, green investing means investing in renewable energies. For retail investors there are three common ways to invest in companies that are involved in creating a greener future for all of us: stocks, mutual funds and ETFs.

For most people who are new to investing, the green mutual funds are probably the easiest way to invest in companies producing solar energy or technology needed for the production of solar energy. Since most of the mutual funds are rather expensive, I would rather direct my investments in some of the available green exchange traded funds (ETFs). In case you are willing to take more risks and spend your time analyzing individual companies, you could invest directly in stocks, as well.

At the moment, there are many interesting green ETFs available. Some of them are quoted at New York, but there are very good alternatives available at European stock exchanges as well.

The two most interesting funds for investors willing to invest in solar technology companies are KWT and TAN. Both of them are quoted at New York and thus they should be available both to US investors and easily for private investors around the world. Both of the ETF funds invest in a good selection of the most important companies active in the solar tech branch.

At the moment, investing in the solar energy stocks might seem a very risky investment. Sure, the branch has not been doing very well during the last months. But in the long rund, the solar energy companies will certainly benefit from the rising price of oil. At least I'll put my bets on the solar technology.
